Himmarshee FC

“What Soccer Should Be in the United States”

IMG_5487.JPG

Himmarshee FC was founded in 2017 as a supporter-run club following the untimely demise of Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

Four different iterations of Fort Lauderdale Strikers have come and gone since the original club was founded in 1971, yet none have lasted more than 7 seasons without folding, relocating, rebranding or being disbanded by their league. As an amateur club established by former staff and supporters of the Strikers, Himmarshee FC are a far more sustainable club that seeks to keep the Strikers’ flame alive for generations to come.

A Nod to Florida’s Biggest Blessing

For a club built from the ashes of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, it’s fitting that the Home Kit is an evolution of their traditional red-and-yellow jerseys. Where the Strikers employed hoops, Himmarshee opted for a modern sash design that, if you look closely, contains a sunburst pattern as a nod to their state’s biggest blessing (and curse when it’s a 1pm kick-off on a turf field…).

A Tribute to Lockhart Stadium

The Away Kit was designed in 2019, which was the 60th and final year that the original Lockhart Stadium - the home of the original Fort Lauderdale Strikers - stood. Despite never receiving the love, respect or investment that a venue of its heritage deserved, it was the home and physical birthplace of the club and will always hold a special place in fans’ hearts.

The design itself with the chain-link fence pattern and “Do Not Stand Along the Fence” sign on the lower front is a nod to the gritty character of the venue, while the colour scheme is drawn from the Fort Lauderdale city flag.

In the words of Club President, Derek Reese, the club’s "entire existence can be summed up as a defiant statement against everything that is backwards about the way soccer is run in the US, and particularly in Fort Lauderdale. The community and its soccer history get little respect from the powers that be, including owners, leagues and even their own government.

Lockhart Stadium is now Inter Miami FC’s Stadium. Rather than properly restoring one of the most historic soccer venues in the country, it was bulldozed to give an MLS team with a different city’s name a pop-up stadium that they'll leave at the first chance if and when they get a stadium built an hour away where they actually want to be.”

Out of This World

The Primary Goalkeeper Shirt is also inspired by a historic anniversary, with 2019 marking the 50th year since Apollo 11 and the first moon landing.

Launched just up the coast from Fort Lauderdale in the Kennedy Space Center, the rocket that made the world stand still is now memorialised around the club’s crest.

The Venice of America

More conventional than the Apollo 11 Goalkeeper Shirt but no less creative, this Secondary Goalkeeper Shirt mimics water reflection in homage to the water features that surround the area: the Atlantic Ocean, the extensive network of canals that gives Fort Lauderdale its nickname - “The Venice of America” - and of course the New River that Himmarshee FC draws its name from.
